A Compassionate Link Between Generations
“When we serve the elders, we meet the children. When we listen to the elders, we hear the cries of the young.”
At Save the Elders Foundation, our mission has always been to restore dignity and care to the elderly, especially those in remote and underserved communities in Tanzania. But in every place we go—whether Olgilai or Makuyuni—we meet the grandchildren. Vulnerable, malnourished, and sometimes orphaned or abandoned, these children live under the quiet guardianship of aging hands.
Through this growing reality, we are proud to launch a heartfelt extension of our mission:
Children of the Elders
An initiative to ensure the children under elder care receive the healthcare, education, and compassion they so desperately need.
🎯 Our Purpose
To protect and uplift children living with or depending on elderly caregivers by providing them with:
Basic health care and screenings
Educational support and school materials
Safe, nurturing spaces during our outreach events
Psychosocial and emotional support
Health, hygiene, and nutrition education
🧒🏽 Who We Serve
Children between 4 and 17 years old
Grandchildren and dependents of elders we already support
Children living in elder-led households or exposed to extreme poverty
🚑 What We Do
Integrate child health screening during elder mobile clinics
Provide school essentials to vulnerable children
Create “Children’s Corners” during outreach for learning, storytelling, and emotional care
Distribute dignity kits and nutritional packages
Partner with schools and child-focused NGOs for continuity
🌍 Why It Matters
Most of these children are invisible in public systems. Many have dropped out of school, lack basic health services, and live in silence. By recognizing and including them in our programming, we strengthen intergenerational care and break the cycle of neglect.
💚 Impact We’re Aiming For
300+ children screened for basic health issues annually
150+ children receive educational support
100% of our elder outreach events include child-focused activities
Stories shared to raise awareness and funding for long-term care
Future plans (Having a center for these children)
Osiligi Children's Center—A Place of Light and Love
In the heart of our Maasai communities, the Save the Elders Foundation envisions a warm and nurturing space for the most vulnerable—the children of the elderly, often orphans or abandoned by their parents and left under the care of their aging grandparents.
At Osiligi Children’s Center, we will provide
📚 Education—From baby class to upper primary, children will grow in wisdom and purpose.
🏥 Health Services—Regular medical checkups, nutrition, and emotional support.
🍲 Nutrition & Shelter—Daily meals and safe, loving shelter.
🧡 Mentorship & Spiritual Care – Guided by elders and community mentors, these children will be raised with love, values, and dignity.
This center is not just a school—it’s a beacon of hope, where education begins and broken lives are rebuilt.
🌅 “Because every child deserves a chance to rise.”
